“When Rita Joe first come to the city, she told me … the cement made her feet hurt.” George Ryga.
2023-09-16, Painter's notes: Sarah and I married on May 19, 2016, on a wildfire smokey day under a large willow tree on the back lawns of the Alberta Legislature. We are excited to learn a new willow tree was planted next to the beech tree last week for Orange Shirt Day.
Orange Shirt Day Linden Tree survived being caged during the construction of lighting and a new sidewalk shaped like a cross. In Greece and Eastern Europe, the linden tree was used in numerous rituals, including divination, marriage, fertility, and healing. In Romania and other Slavic countries, the linden held a divine presence and was thought to be a link between life and death. In Germany, the tree symbolized justice and peace.
